Investing Women’s Ambition Award open for entries!

The Investing Women Ambition Award is open for entries now until the 1st December!

Ambition is for early stage female led ideas (or start-ups) and comes with an impressive support package for winners.

This year they have split the competition into categories and all that’s needed to enter is a 1-2 min pitch video outlining the idea/business.

Girl Geek Scotland Mentoring Community: Critical Skills for Leadership

Did you know that mentors routinely give men and women very different advice? While men are told to fill specific gaps in experience, and build much needed skill-sets, women are told to improve confidence. The subconscious bias in this advice is responsible for holding a lot of women back from Leadership roles. In this workshop we will explore what skills and experience are needed to get into a Leadership role, and what special qualities are desired at the highest levels.

Girl Geek Scotland (GGS) has been developing world-class educational and networking experiences for women in Digital Technologies since 2008. We see the engagement of women in technology as being critical to the competitiveness of this sector, and to the development of our economy.

Upcoming Events From Our Friends at Asia Scot

On the 2nd of October Dr. Shashi Tharoor will be coming to Edinburgh to talk about his book ‘Inglorious Empire: What the British did to India’. There are four tickets left so I would encourage you to sign up as soon as possible. You are able to register for this breakfast event by clicking here.

Our next event in Glasgow is with Jörg Wuttke at the Strathclyde Business School on the 4th of October. Jörg will be talking about China’s politics ahead of the party congress in October and anticipated changes, China’s economy (including the vast regional discrepancies), and major challenges (including constraints on the flow of capital out of China). Narayana Murthy, Founder of Infosys, will be presenting India’s $42 Billion-Dollar Business to Members & Partners of the Asia Scotland Institute on the 11th of October. Girl Geek Scotland’s Autumn Social: Meet The Volunteers (casual meetup, 21 September)

Well THAT was a wild summer! Lots of sun, lots of rain, lots and lots of work to do and just a flurry of Out Of Office replies. Exhausted, and ready for the gentle exhale of beautiful Autumntime.

Time for another seasonal social meetup for GGS. This is a casual and informal event, an opportunity for the volunteering team to relax and catch up with each other, and to welcome other likeminded folks to meet them, meet each other, network, and have a relaxing Autumnal drink at the delightful Le Monde Hotel bar.

Le Monde is a favourite venue for GGS social meetups. Do come along, meet the volunteers, and chat with other Girl Geek Scotland network and community members.

EVENT: Passwords for Getting Past Angel Finance Gatekeepers at our next Panel Event in Edinburgh

We’re excited about our next panel event Getting Past the Gatekeepers – Passwords for Angel Finance taking place on the evening of Thursday 14 September 2017 in Edinburgh.

What do you do? Why should I care? Why would I invest in YOU? These are the three questions that should be foremost in your mind when you plan your pitch to Angel investors. Around 80% of pitches that get past the gatekeepers will get investment. In this panel event we invite gatekeepers of Angel Finance to tell you directly what they are looking for when they review a business application so that you can make it to the next level.

Speakers are Jackie Waring from Investing Women and AccelerateHer, Laura Peachey from MBM Commercial, Vicky Brock from Clear Returns, and Lynzi Leroy from E-VR‘s VR Incubator.
